I really love a Georgia accent! And, you’ll definitely hear one in today’s interview with David Barrett who built a Monaco 19 foot Classic Inboard Mahogany Runabout. David has been to all of our Gatherings of Boatbuilders and each time has brought his beautiful boat, Sweet Melissa. She is named after his wife who has also attended the past couple of Gatherings and I can attest that she is indeed very sweet!
The first year of the Gathering was 2006 and I interviewed David at that time on the dock. But, the wind was blowing so hard that you couldn’t hear a word he said. So now we finally have a great interview of David! In this interview, he tells about his cost and time to build and shares some of the challenges he faced.
The Monaco is one of Glen-L’s very popular classic mahogany designs. You can get plans and full size patterns, fastening kit and fiberglass covering kit through our online store. The Monaco can also be built as an open utility with our additional supplement. You can also build your own trailer using Glen-L Boat Trailer Plans.
This boat is designed for cold-molded construction and although it is a challenging first-time project, most who build her have never built a boat before. You can learn more about this type of construction here.
