Building Boats Became a Career
Fresh out of High school back in 2004, I decided to build a Glen L Squirt boat. Having no experience with wood working or boats in general, it was quite the task.
Thankfully, there was “The Boatbuilder Forum” to help guide me through the project. I have not kept in contact with the great people I had met on the forum which I deeply regret, but I will never forget how helpful and kind hearted everyone on the site was and I’m sure still is. The boat wouldn’t be the same with out them.
The first Glen-L build changed my life. It didn’t take long for me to become fascinated with boats, motors, and the marine industry in general. I went to college to become a marine mechanic, became licensed through many different leaders in the industry, and continue to build and rebuild boats of all kinds. Not only is it a great hobby, but it became a career as well.
I wanted to write this e-mail to thank you for all you have done for me and my family. I will continue to enjoy the monthly newsletters I have been receiving for the last decade and continue to take inspiration from other builds. — Drew
One Response to Building the Glen-L Squirt Changed My Life
Great piece. I started building in the 60s, drifted away, but it has become my retirement job/hobby now. I too thank the Glen-L folks, and especially good health to Glen. Though I have never met a-one in person, I consider them close friends. Keep it up.
