Gathering of Glen-L Boatbuilders – 2020

Whew, 2020! The year that will go down in infamy…

The annual Gathering of Glen-L Boatbuilders did take place, but with a smaller contingent of attendees. According to Chris Atwood, Glen-L Zip builder, there were 7 boats and 18-20 people that attended.

Chris says, “The highlight was probably Walter Hansen from Texas and
his just finished Glen-L Malahini.  He built it to resemble a Riva and
it was stunning. “

This is the last year that this gathering will be at Hale’s Bar Marina & Resort in Guild, Tennessee. The facilities continue to be disappointing, so the group has decided on a new location up the river called Bluewater Resort & Marina in Dayton, Tennessee.

For those of you that are not familiar with this get-together, let me tell you a bit about it. We have an active Boatbuilder Forum with many members and 14 years ago, Dave Grason and Bill Edmundson (active Forum contributors at that time) decided it would be fun to have a gathering of the forum members in the Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee area so they could meet each other and their boats in person. This area was chosen because there seemed to be a large number of Forum members in that area. And as they say, the rest is history.

The first gathering was at Guntersville Lake in Alabama and we stayed there for a couple of years. Then moved to the Hale’s location for the remaining years. The new location looks really nice, and is booking up quickly for 2021. It will be September 22 – 26, 2021. As usual, you can find details on the Forum and even join in the planning. It’s also posted as an event on the Glen-L Facebook page.

So, back to this year’s scaled-down Chinavirus event, Chris put together a video for us–thanks Chris! Enjoy…

  1. Walter Hansen says:

To Chris and all the others who attended this gathering, Nancy and I are thankful for your hospitality, warm friendly welcome and dedication to our his annual event. The COVID cast a cloud that made it difficult for those of us at increased risk, but that didn’t keep people from having fun, as Chris’ photos and videos clearly show. We look forward to next year and wish everyone healthy h and happiness until we meet again.
