Come to the Boat Builder Gathering!
Join us September 24-26 at
Hale’s Bar Marina & Resort in Guild, Tennessee!
Here’s a taste of last year’s event…
See home built boats in action, meet and talk to builders and have a great time!
The Gathering, or “G4″ as it is affectionately called, is an event for backyard boat builders organized by the members of the Glen-L Forum.
This is the fourth year for the Gathering but the first in Tennessee. The purpose of the event is for people who are interested in building boats to get together. Many bring their completed boats or boats that are still in process. Most are building Glen-L boats since they are members of our forum, but all boats are welcome.
Last year we had over 100 people attend and about 40 boats to “ooh” and “aah” over and take rides in. This year’s signups indicate that we’ll have even more boats and happy, friendly people attending. This year there will be some fast speed boats, mahogany runabouts, cruisers, small runabouts, tugboats, canoes, kayaks–you name it!
There is a camradarie at these events that everyone seems to sense. I’ve been to every event and can testify that it is a blast! Boat builders are some of the most wonderful people I know. Everyone is friendly and more than happy to talk about their boats and give insights on the building process, share thoughts and ideas, some should’ves and wish-I-hads and just all-around honest talk.
Folks are coming from as far as Canada, Oregon, California and Minnesota. There are places to stay locally if you’d like, or you can just come on Saturday to see the boats and meet some great people. The event organizers and Forum members pitch in and cook food for each day and boy, is it yummy!
This is a pretty casual event without a strict schedule, but it will be something like this:
- Friday night dinner around 5 pm
- Saturday breakfast about 7 or 8 am and then on the water with the boats
- Saturday lunch around noon
- Saturday night dinner and “awards”
- Sunday breakfast and then we say our goodbyes
All of the meals and boats will be at Hale’s Bar Marina & Resort–here is the info:
